What to Look for When Choosing a Tribute Video Producer

When choosing a tribute video producer, there are certain things to look for so you get the most for your money. Here is a list of tips to help you make your choice.

  • Are they enthusiastic? This is important because their enthusiasm must be evident in your production. They must feel the highs and lows of your tribute so that these feelings will show through to your audience.
  • Do they charge by the photo, slide and/or video clip? They’re not a producer, they’re a scanning agency, and they’re looking at your video as “piece work.” Double look out if they ask you to order the images for them. This is not a storyteller.
  • Watching their samples, do they seem to stick with one piece of music, looped over and over? This is a big sin. The music tells the audience what to feel, and when to laugh or cry. One piece of music can’t provide those emotional signals.
  • .A good tribute video will take two to four weeks to produce. Assuming the producer is readily available, anything less or more than that in terms of pricing should be suspect. Expect the length to be a pricing issue, but not the only one. We’ve produced short tributes for meeting openers that have featured more than 100 pictures (with complicated animations and movements on the pictures) that lasted only a running time of 100 seconds!
  • Finally, does this person seem to be easy to get along with? Some film and video producers have big egos, but that should not get in the way of telling your story the way you want and making any revisions necessary through the review process. You should be comfortable and happy with the result.
